This past Sabbath marked a joyful new chapter for the Hawthorne church family as members gathered to welcome Pastor Laxmi and his wife, Julie Saquilayan. The day was filled with worship, fellowship, and a strong sense of unity that left many feeling deeply encouraged about the journey ahead.
In a conversation with former pastor Joe Tonga, Pastor Laxmi discovered a special connection that immediately made Hawthorne feel like home. Both pastors grew up in Norwalk and even graduated from the same high school—an unexpected bond that served as a reminder of God’s guiding hand in bringing people together.
The Sabbath service was followed by a meal that reflected the richness of the congregation’s diversity, with American, Asian, and Tongan dishes shared around the table. More than just a meal, it was a celebration of cultures and a symbol of the unity that makes Hawthorne unique.
As Pastor Laxmi and Julie begin their ministry, the church family expressed heartfelt excitement and gratitude for their presence. With anticipation for what God will do in the days ahead, members rejoiced in the spirit of fellowship that filled the sanctuary and the hallways.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
